Genius Inside Summit Reveals that Social Media in PPM is not Child’s Play

Recently I was speaking with my six year old son about his friends and what they do for fun, when he brought up that a group of his buddies have the Nintendo 3DS. Still stuck in the age of Atari I was amazed when he told me that with this newer console you can play video games in 3-D (no glasses required) and that his friends (as he said) enter some code on to their devices to accept each other as “Friends” and communicate via “Texting.”  Is it possible!?!  Social networking starts in first grade!?!  Apparently it does.

Today’s project management leadership needs to adapt to the changing workforce

In light of the Facebook’s recent IPO filing that confirms the maturation and societal changing reality of social networks, it is evident to me that we have crossed the chasm in which the way the current generation interacts with each other on both a personal and professional level.
Whether it is via Smart phones or a Tablet PCs, “virtual” interactions have become an integral part of sharing and delivering messages among different groups of people with similar interests.  Facebook and its 875,000,000 members is a testament of how the world’s diverse communities has evolved into a global network all connected through  Read More

It has been a week since Lotusphere 2012.  This year’s event was quite exciting in that it a lot of the ideas and concepts that were discussed in 2011 were put into action offering up new capabilities to the Lotus Notes community delivering on the promise of a more social platform.  One of the primary messages of the event is that social media has transformed our business landscape by fundamentally changing the way people interact in a business context.  We truly live in an era where information workers are no longer chained to their desks and are more mobile and  Read More

Better Project Collaboration does not Necessarily Mean Standardizing Solely on a Common Web Platform

In a world where the average knowledge worker communicates with his or her stakeholders via email, intranets, extranets, smart phones, and a host of social media and enterprise applications available over the Web, the meaning of “collaboration” can be as useful as it is confusing to project teams that live and die by the information they ingest.  With so many options and means to communicate, developing a collaboration strategy is critical in today’s project environment. You just have to dial back ten years ago and realize collaboration options were quite basic in comparison to today’s world.  Most information was shared  Read More

5 Questions Project Leaders Need to Ask to Avoid the Damaging Effects of “Broken Telephone”

For many avid “social networkers” there is panic in the air!  There is a story circulating the internet that claims Facebook will be charging its members a monthly fee.  In a world of constant connectivity and the instant access to information rumors can go viral at the drop of a hat.  Facebook and its powerful platform that has the capabilities to deliver real-time information to an immense user base of 800,000,000 members is an excellent example of the available vehicles to quickly disseminate damaging information. Although the rumor has been discounted by Facebook, the reality is today’s online platforms have  Read More

Market Leadership: It Takes a Series of Strategic Battles to Win the War

With the recent launch of Google’s innovative social networking platform Google+, it did not take long for Mark Zuckerberg to quickly respond with his recent announcement of his strategic relationship between Facebook and Skype.  In a delicate move in a world where anyone can fall from grace in a heartbeat, Zuckerberg was more than announcing a strategic partnership with Skype, but was also sending a message to Google that he is ready to put up a real fight to maintain his leadership position in the Social Network landscape with Microsoft at his back (who recently acquired Skype).  You do not  Read More

Are your Projects Getting Social? With the Good comes the Bad…

Now that social media is really mainstream, there is a lot of discussion around its benefits (especially in the business world).  Creating social networks through the likes of LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter can equally empower both small project work groups as well as multi-national corporations to become their own media outlet by sharing valuable information and ideas among their peers and customers.   Instantaneously businesses can facilitate value-driven collaboration impacting the way they service their customers and the manner in which their employees can have their voice heard.
In theory social media tools are suppose to contribute to the overall growth of  Read More

What do Kevin Spacey, Harry Potter and Social Media have in common?

kevin spacey ibm lotusphere 2011

These were all highlights at this year’s IBM Lotusphere 2011 conference uniting the Lotus Notes community.  From the opening session featuring Kevin Spacey to the final evening concluding at Universal Orlando’s theme park featuring the Wizardry World of Harry Potter, as a first timer to this event, I was amazed to see the incredible global following the Lotus Notes community has.  As true pioneers in the world of collaboration, decades before Twitter and Facebook, the Lotus Notes platform has provided a collaboration platform on its groupware technology allowing thousands of developers, software architects and business partners deliver first class collaboration  Read More
